Joule · The AI layer
Ask your utility data in plain English
Joule is the AI layer across the Utilified platform. It answers plain-English questions over the utility data you're authorised to see, runs registered platform tools, and in UMS chat sets out a plan for your approval before it changes a record. Through MCP, Claude and other AI assistants use registered tools with your permissions and their own approval prompts.
Joule is scoped and priced with our team. See pricing
Illustrative data
Inside UMS
Answers, checks and changes you approve
Joule works over the records your team already keeps in UMS, with the same roles and account visibility.
Plain-English questions over your data
Ask Joule questions in plain English and it answers from the utility data you're authorised to see, using registered platform tools, with conversation history and tools loaded for the page you're on.
Plan approval and real revert
In UMS chat, Joule sets out a plan and waits for your approval before it changes a record, and steps that can't be undone need their own confirmation. You can revert Joule's edits; if a record has changed since, or can't be restored, Joule tells you why.
Joule checks
Joule checks flag charges that contradict the invoice header and the same bill on two retail accounts, and a weekly sweep finds accounts that are closed but still billed.
Bring your own AI assistant
MCP connector
Connect Claude or another AI assistant to UMS through MCP. It signs in as you and sees only what you can see, with endpoints grouped for billing, portfolio, sustainability, modelling and admin. Changes need the write access you grant, and approval of each one happens in your assistant, not in a Joule plan. The connector is part of Joule.
Where Joule stops
- In UMS chat, it doesn't change a record until you approve its plan.
- It sees only the data you're authorised to see, and a new tool reaches it only once it's registered and granted.
- It doesn't provide engineering certification or tax advice.
FAQ
Joule questions
What is Joule?
Joule is the AI layer across the Utilified platform. It answers plain-English questions over the utility data you're authorised to see, runs registered platform tools, and proposes changes as a plan you approve. Joule checks also flag specific problems, such as the same bill on two retail accounts, and a weekly sweep finds closed accounts that are still being billed.
Can Joule change my data without asking?
Not in chat. In UMS, Joule sets out a plan and waits for your approval before it changes a record, and steps that can't be undone need their own confirmation. You can revert Joule's edits unless the record has changed since. If your organisation switches on automated invoice processing, high-confidence invoices are processed automatically within the thresholds you set, and every automated action is logged. AI assistants connected through MCP use their own approval prompts.
What data can Joule see?
Joule sees only what you're allowed to see. It works over your authorised utility data in UMS, through registered tools, and it respects your roles, account visibility and module permissions. A new endpoint isn't exposed to Joule or MCP clients automatically. Each tool is registered and granted first, so access stays deliberate.
Can I use Claude or another AI assistant with UMS?
Yes, through the MCP connector, part of Joule. Connect Claude or another MCP-compatible AI assistant and it signs in as you, so it sees only what you can see. Endpoints are grouped for billing, portfolio, sustainability, modelling and admin, and the connector documentation on docs.utilified.com covers setup.
